Historic NFL Draft

On Thursday, April 22 the University of Oklahoma made history by having four players drafted in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft. More impressively OU had three out of the first four players drafted. The University of Oklahoma was very honored by this years draft, the school even made a Draft Central page on Soonersports.com, the OU athletics website. The first overall selection was quarterback Sam Bradford, who went to the St. Louis Rams. Drafted third overall by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was defensive lineman Gerald Mccoy. The fourth overall pick was Trent Williams, who was selected by the Washington Redskins. Rounding out the first round was All-American tight-end Jermaine Gresham, who went to the Cincinnati Bengals. Three more Sooners, Dominique Franks, Keenan Clayton, and Brody Eldridge were also selected in the draft.

I personally feel like having so many OU players drafted leaves a great reflection on the University of Oklahoma. These players were constantly on the news and on television which will help the recruiting for OU's program. Over the past 10 years, almost every single OU football game has been televised. That being said technology is helping OU by getting its name out to not only athletes but also to interested students.

  1. I think it's great that so many sooner greats are able to further their careers into the National Football League. But do you feel kind of sad for players like Chris Brown that played hell of seasons, and never saw their name appear on the draft board?

  2. Haha well yes I never really thought of it like that, but I definitely agree with where you are coming from and do feel sad for them. Although this cannot take away from the players who are being drafted. Do you think that Chris Brown played good in games that were not televised to a national audience? Could technology actually hurt some players since some games are only covered regionally and not nationally?

  3. I feel as if technology does play a huge role in this. Take Demarco Murray for example. He got to start at all the big games that were televised, while Chris Brown only played when they were beating someone awful at a non televised game. I really do think this hurt his chances with the NFL.

  4. I will always remember that night that the NFL draft aired. There was so much hype over who would go where, and it proved to be a very exciting night. I am very proud of our athletic department and football players on their accomplishments. I have many friends who do not like us Sooners and feel that we suck at football, but it's obvious that we must not suck when you see the outcome of the draft. Boomer Sooner!

  5. I didn't used to really pay attention to the NFL draft, but after this year I realized how bigh of a deal it actually was. I was excited even though I don't really follow football, but even I, a football dummy, could tell how big of a deal it was. I can't imagine the feelings that Sam Bradford experienced that night. It must be amazing to know that you are the best of the best in your field. Boomer Sooner!
